Dr. Radhakrishnan was the first Vice President of India and the second (1962– 1967) President. Radhakrishnan, who started teaching from Madras Presidency College, later went on to become a professor at the University of Mysore and then did teaching work in several universities in the country. From 1939 to 1948 he was also the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). He was a philosopher, conductor of Indian culture and a devout Hindu thinker. His birthday is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India in honor of this famous teacher.
BIRTH :-
Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on September, 5 ,1888 in a Brahmin family in Tirutani village (Madras), Tamil Nadu. His ancestor’s lived in a village called Sarvapalli, so all the members of Radhakrishnan’s family used the surname Sarvapalli in front of their name’s. Your father’s name was Sarvepalli Veeraswamy and mother’s name was Sitamma. Radhakrishnan had 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Early Life : –
Sarvepalli Radhakrapanan was born in a poor Brahmin family in Tirutin, Madras. His father was poor, so Sarvepalli Radhakrapanan’s education was done only with the help of scholarship. He passed the matriculation level examination in 1902 and also received a scholarship. He then passed the Faculty of Arts examination in first class in 1904. He chose Philosophy as a major subject in undergraduate and postgraduate. He was awarded with high marks in psychology, history and mathematics. Apart from this, Christian College Madras also gave him a scholarship.
Teaching : –
MA in Philosophy After doing this, in 1909, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the Presidency College, Madras. In college, he had expertise on mythological saga such as Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, Brahmasutra and Ramanuja Mahadeva etc. He accustomed himself to Buddha, Jainism and Western thinkers Plato, Palatins and Bergson during this period. In 1918, he was elected Professor of Philosophy at the University of Mysore. In 1921 Radhakrishnan was named Professor of Philosophy of the University of Calcutta. In 1923, Dr. Radhakrishnan’s book ‘Indian Philosophy’ was published. This book got the fame of the best philosophy literature. Sarvepalli was invited to deliver a speech on Hindu philosophy at Oxford University. He also used his speech to intensify the freedom movement. In the year 1931 Sarvepalli contested the post of vice-chancellor at Andhra University. He became the Vice Chancellor of the Banaras Hindu University in 1939 and remained in the post until 1948.
Political Life : –
After India’s independence, he represented the country in UNESCO. Radhakrishnan was India’s ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1949 to 1952. In 1952, he was made the first Vice President of the country. In 1954, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna. After this, in 1962 he was elected the second President of the country. While he was in the presidency, India also fought with China and Pakistan. He retired from the presidency in 1967 and settled in Madras.

He was Vice Chancellor of Andhra University from 1931 to 36.
Professor at the University of Oxford from 1936 to 1952.
Worked from 1937 to 1941 as Professor of George V College under the University of Calcutta.
From 1939 to 48, he was the Chancellor of the Hindu University of Kashi.
In 1946, he made his presence’s as an Indian representatives in UNESCO’S.
He was the Chancellor of Delhi University from 1953 to 1962.

1938 Appointed as Councilor of the British Academy.
1954 “Bharat Ratna”, the greatest honor of citizenship.
1954 of German, “Specialties of Arts and Sciences”.
1961 German Book Trade’s “Peace Prize”.
1962 Indian Teachers ‘Day Association celebrates September 5 every year as Teachers’ Day.
Honor of the 1963 British Order of Merit.
He was honored by the Sahitya Academy in 1968 (he was the first person to receive this honor).
1975 Templeton Award. To make people educated in their life, to change their thinking and to increase love for each other and maintain unity among people. Which he donated to the University of Oxford, the entire amount of the Templeton Prize a few months before his death. He is the first non-Christian person to receive this award.
1989 by Oxford University in memory of Rashkrishnan “Dr. Establishment of Radhakrishnan Discipleship Institution “.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan died on 17 April 1975 after a prolonged illness. His contribution in the field of education will always be appreciated. Every year on 5 September, “Teachers Day” is celebrated all over the country to honor them. On this day, the best teachers of the country are honored.
TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION : –
“Teacher’s Day” is celebrated on 5 September every year on the occasion of your birthday. They did not want to tie education into the rules. Despite being a teacher himself, he would come late to his class at the university and sometimes he would leave early. He said that 20 minutes is enough for the lecture he had to give. All those students were dear to the students.
