 Pranab Kumar Mukherjee is the thirteenth President of India.  He is a senior leader and has held several important ministries and positions of the Government of India at different times in his 60-year political career.  He became the UPA before becoming President.  He was the Union Finance Minister in the coalition government.  In the presidential election, he was the candidate of the United Progressive Alliance led by the Indian National Congress and he defeated his rival candidate P.A.  Defeated Sangma and took the oath of office and secrecy as the thirteenth President of India on 25 July 2012.

 With the help of former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi, he entered politics in 1969 when he was elected to the Rajya Sabha on a Congress ticket.  Gradually, he became the chief of Indira Gandhi and was also included in the Union Cabinet in 1973.

He was also accused of excesses during the Emergency of 1975–77.  Pranab was the Finance Minister of the country from 1982-84 after having experience of working in several ministries.  He was the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1985.

 After Indira Gandhi’s death, Rajiv Gandhi became the Prime Minister of the country, after which Pranab Mukherjee came on the edge because after Indira Gandhi, he considered himself the most capable candidate for the post of Prime Minister.  His political career revived in the Narasimha Rao government when he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission in 1991 and then Foreign Minister of the country in 1995.  He played an important role in making Sonia Gandhi the President of the Congress Party.  From 2004 to 2012, the Congress-led UPA.  He held almost all important positions in coalition government.

Early Life  : –

 Pranab Mukherjee was born in a Bengali Brahmin family on 11 December 1935 at a place called Mirti in Birbhum district of West Bengal.  His father was active in the Indian independence movement and was a member of the West Bengal Legislative Council from 1952 to 1964.  He was also a member of the All India Congress Committee.  Pranab’s mother’s name was Rajalakshmi.  He studied at Suri Vidyasagar College (affiliated to Kolkata University) in Birbhum and later received MA in Political Science and History.  did.  He received his LLB from Kolkata University.  Degree also.

 Thereafter, he worked as a Select Clerk in the Kolkata Office of the Deputy Accountant General (Post and Telegraph).  In 1963, he started teaching politics at Vidyanagar College in South 24 Parganas district and became a journalist by joining a letter called ‘Desher Dak’.

 Pranab Mukherjee’s political career began in 1969 when he was V.K.  Successfully managed Krishna Menon’s election campaign (by-election for Midnapore Lok Sabha seat).  The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi recognized his talent and made him a member of the Rajya Sabha in July 1969 by joining the Indian National Congress.  After this Mukherjee was elected to the Rajya Sabha several times (1975, 1981, 1993 and 1999).

 Gradually, Pranab Mukherjee became a favorite of Indira Gandhi and was included in the Union Government Cabinet in 1973.  During the Emergency of 1975-77, he was accused of using non-constitutional methods and he was also found guilty by the Shah Commission constituted by the Janata Party.  Later, Pranab came out clean with all these charges and was the finance minister of the country in 1982-84.  During his tenure he had some success in fixing the financial condition of the government.  Manmohan Singh was made the Governor of the Reserve Bank during his tenure.

 In 1980, he was made the leader of the Congress Party in the Rajya Sabha.  During this time, Mukherjee was considered to be the most powerful cabinet minister and in the absence of the Prime Minister, he presided over the cabinet meetings.

 After Indira Gandhi’s assassination, Pranab Mukherjee was considered to be the strongest contender for the post of Prime Minister, but Pranab was defeated at the time Rajiv Gandhi became Prime Minister.  It is believed that he fell victim to the conspiracy of the supporters of Rajiv Gandhi, after which he was not included in the Cabinet.

 After this, he left the Congress and formed his political party ‘National Socialist Congress’, but in 1989 he merged his party into the Congress Party.  PV  His political career in the Narasimha Rao government resurfaced when he was made the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission and was appointed as Foreign Minister in 1995.  He served as the Foreign Minister for the first time in the Narasimha Rao cabinet from 1995 to 1996.  In 1997, Pranab was elected as the outstanding parliamentarian.

 Pranab Mukherjee is considered loyal to the Gandhi family and was instrumental in making Sonia Gandhi the President of the Congress Party.  In 1998-99, when Sonia Gandhi was elected President of the Congress, she was made the General Secretary of the party.

 In 2004, Pranab contested for the Lok Sabha for the first time and won from Jangipur parliamentary constituency in West Bengal.  He was elected the leader of the party in the Lok Sabha and it was believed that he would be made the Prime Minister after Sonia Gandhi’s refusal, but Manmohan Singh was elected Prime Minister amid speculation.  Pranab Mukherjee UPA from 2004 to 2012 until becoming President.  Many important roles were seen in coalition government.  During this time he was the Defense, Finance and Foreign Minister of the country.  During this time, Mukherjee was also the head of the Congress Parliamentary Party and the Congress Legislative Party.

 Pranab Mukherjee was married to Shubhra Mukherjee on July 13, 1957, at the age of twenty-two.  They have two sons and a daughter – a total of three children.  His wife Shubhra Mukherjee died on 18 August 2015 due to illness.

Pranab Mukherjee has also written several works, including Midterm Poll, Beyond Survival, Off the Track – Saga of Struggle and Sacrifice, Emerging Dimensions of the Indian Economy, and Challenge Before the Nation.

 They celebrate the festival of Durga Puja every year in their native village Mirati (West Bengal).  He has also received many international accolades and awards.  The Government of India has also honored him with the Padma Vibhushan (the second highest civilian honor in the country).  He has been awarded honorary doctorates by the Universities of Wolverhampton and Assam.
